Dennis Brown to be buried in Heroes Park
REGGAE SUPERSTAR Dennis Brown will be the third national artiste to be buried in the section of the national cemetery at the National Heroes Park in Kingston which is reserved for Jamaicans who have made an outstanding contribution to the nation. The two already buried there are Ranny Williams and artist Mallica 'Kapo' Reynolds.
According to a Jamaica House news release yesterday, Cabinet has instructed the Minister of Education and Culture Burchell Whiteman to propose for its consideration clear criteria in respect of those persons to be buried in the area of the national cemetery reserved for folk heroes.
The other two sections of the national cemetery are the National Shrine, which is reserved for the monuments dedicated to the seven National Heroes and the area reserved for Governor-Generals and Prime Ministers.
In a career spanning three decades, Dennis Brown emerged as Jamaica's most recorded artiste to date. His 60 albums and over 300 singles reflect extraordinary quality and consistency, as well as more hits than any of his peers.
Prime Minister P.J. Patterson said Cabinet has decided to afford an appropriate form of national recognition for Dennis Brown, whose lyrics, he said, did not reflect vulgarity, obscenity nor the endorsement of violence.
